5 Petals
Using a forget-me-not flower as my logo gives me the opportunity to remind by clients of five of the benefits of massage therapy. Everyone knows about relaxation as Benefit #1, but there are others to educate you about. I'll be using blog posts and shared webpages for each category, to be found on individual pages for each. Below I have laid out a brief summary for each. The section titles will link you to the extended pages, also to be found in the drop-down menu at the top of the website.
I don't need to sell you on the relaxation aspect of massage, but if you're curious about the physiological why's of the relaxation process then see this page.
Massage can be a meditation on the integration of mind and body. Before I took my first massage therapy course I felt like a floating brain with eyeballs steering this robot thing I was attached to. Once my training began and I was receiving and giving massages on a regular basis I became more plugged into my full anatomy.
Reconnecting with your body can be a very grounding experience. We all spend too much time cooped up in our heads. A massage session brings your focus to the present sensations. Being in a calming environment of a formal massage studio, away from your normal activities, lets distractions fade away.
The physiological effects of massage are very beneficial for physical healing. Lymphatic massage is particularly great when in the process of recovering from injuries or surgeries. Receiving physical bodywork can also open you to mental and emotional healing. Our bodies hold onto memories that can be released in conjunction with muscle tightness.
You may associate massage with deep relaxation and sleepiness (what I like to call "massage brain" after a session), but there are modalities that can help wake you up and feel more alert as well.
